Hale Manu Cottage
Entire Guest Home in Hana with Two Bedrooms and Ocean Views
Hale Manu is a large two-bedroom, one-bath guest house. The cottage name means “Bird House” and has a relaxed, fun and playful personality. You will wake up to the sounds and sights of the various tropical birds, as well as the beautiful ocean view and sunrise vistas.
Both bedrooms have ocean views, and at night you will hear the surf crashing in the distance. The guest house is furnished with a fun vintage Hawaiian flare, including a 1930’s vintage rattan living room set we found and shipped all the way from a small Texas town and original oil paintings by local Hana artists. Hale Manu underwent major renovations in 2018 including a new kitchen with new appliances. As with the other guest house on property, Hale Manu is extremely well equipped. The spacious Hawaiian styled architecture includes open beamed ceilings and a large center cupola for great airflow.
Sink yourself into the couch and grab a book off the bamboo shelves to relax the night away. There is a collection of coffee table books about Hawaii and Polynesia, which can be enjoyed during your stay. There are even bird books and binoculars for the avid bird watchers!
Hale Manu sits perched up at the rear of the property. There is a large deck off the house with a gas BBQ, outdoor dining table and chairs and teak “steamer” lounge chairs. Enjoy sunning with great ocean views and breezes.
In the evening, dine under the stars while surrounded by the beautiful gardens.
Both guest houses have stack washer/dryers, tub and shower combinations and enjoy the convenience of “on the grid” electricity, telephone, wifi, cable and water. The other guest house is the Hale Ulu Lulu Cottage with 1 bedroom, perfect for 1-2 people.
The Property
The cottage sits on the The Guest Houses at Malanai property. The property was named after what the ancient Hawaiians gave the gentle breeze that often cools the tropical days in Hana. The guest houses sit on nearly two acres of tenderly landscaped grounds and are nicely set apart, each with unobstructed ocean views. They are designed and decorated to have a distinct style and personality.
Each home has it’s own yard and outdoor setting for the private enjoyment for guests. You will enter into a setting of gracious lawns and verdant tropical foliage.
Equal to the unsurpassed quality of these guest houses is the excellent location. We are located in the Maka’alae District, conveniently just three miles south of Hana town. Maka’alae is known as one of Hana’s premiere areas, as it enjoys gentle breezes (resulting in fewer mosquitoes!), more sunshine and absolutely gorgeous views of the ocean and famous Hana landscape.
The property borders the Maka’alae pasture, a pristine stretch of land along the majestic coastline belonging to the Hana Ranch. This is the perfect place for long walks along the ocean and coastal bluffs, playing in tide pools or surfing at “Sandbars”. The world famous Hamoa Beach and the breathtaking Waioka (Venus) Pool, two of Hana’s greatest treasures, are both just a fifteen minute walk or two minutes drive away.
At night you will gaze at a magical canopy of stars while listening to the sound of the waves on the shore.
