Who serves the best coffee on Maui?
It’s not a chain! The best coffee is poured at small, locally owned Maui businesses. And chances are there’s a great one within a short walk or drive of wherever you’re staying.
Below we’ve selected two of our favorite coffee shops from each Maui region. This is not a complete list of Maui coffee shops – just some we frequent!
No two shops are exactly alike. So sip and explore; all of these Maui coffee shops are worth a detour.

Best Local Coffee Shops on Maui by Region
• West Maui •
The Coffee Store Napili
Some describe Napili Coffee Store as “Napili’s living room.” Come here for unhurried vibes and delicious brews made with Hawaiian-grown beans. Settle into the shop’s cozy book nook, chat with a local regular, or tuck into a delightful pastry baked in-house. Not sure what to order? Lonely Planet names the ice-blended mocha as a standout. Napili Plaza at 5095 Napilihau St.
Island Vibes
Just steps from the gorgeous Napili Bay, Island Vibes Cafe serves up quality espressos, acai bowls, and a breakfast burrito big enough for two. The menu also features gluten-free and sugar-free options. This spacious, airy shop is the perfect place to stop before a long beach day, or lock in for an hour with the laptop. 5425 Lower Honoapiilani Highway.

Stay near West Maui’s favorite coffee shops at the Elikapeka Suite at Sands of Kahana, a spacious 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom beachfront condo with ocean views, two lanais, and easy access to Nāpili, Kapalua, and Kā‘anapali.
Black Friday Special! Book by November 30 and pay in full for stays in November, December, or January for just $599/night! Blackout dates: December 19 to January 2.

• South Maui •
Akamai Coffee
With two South Maui locations, Akamai Coffee is the South Shore’s go-to for a creative cup made with Maui-grown beans. Their menu goes beyond the basics, with favorites like a honey-lavender latte and a toasted coconut latte. Akamai’s Kihei location is a great stop for a quick cup and a fresh pastry, while its larger Wailea location offers a bigger food menu and outdoor seating. Kihei: 1325 S Kihei Road; Wailea: 116 Wailea Ike Drive (Wailea Village).

Kraken Coffee
Kraken is a local chain with a massive local following. This spot is known for its creative brews (try the Mocha Wao with white chocolate and mac nut) and coffee ice cubes – essential on a 90-degree South Maui day. Drop by their recently opened Wailea cafe, or stop by their tried-and-true coffee truck behind Azeka Center. Kihei: 1 Piikea Ave; Wailea: 10 Wailea Gateway Pl.

• Central Maui •
Wailuku Coffee Co
In historic Wailuku, this cafe is the town’s community hub. Local artists’ art adorns the walls, and every morning the same faces fill the outdoor seating. Visitors seek out this homey cafe for its smooth espresso and yummy pastries and breakfast. Follow up your visit with a stroll down historic Market Street. 26 N Market St.

Momona Bakery
Momona is one of Central Maui’s most popular coffee shops. Expect a line out the door most days! This coffee shop and bakery turns out hundreds of pastries a day. The stars are the medialunas, Argentine-style croissants stuffed with lilikoi, custard, chocolate, or another delectable flavor. Try to arrive before 9 am, when the best pastries start selling out. 7 E Kaahumanu Ave.
• East Maui •

My Tita’s Cafe
This little coffee shack in Hana Town is a great spot to refuel after navigating Hana Highway’s hundreds of curves. Expect delicious lattes, drip and specialty coffee, plus tea and grab-and-go eats like banana bread and Spam musubi. The baristas are friendly and happy to recommend their favorite drinks! 5210 Hana Highway.
Da Mean Bean
Da Mean Bean is Hana’s local “caffeine dealer,” serving up daily espresso and morning bites like breakfast burritos and musubis. This colorful coffee truck has become a hot spot in Hana Town. Whether you’re looking for a morning caffeine boost or a pick-me-up before heading back to Paia, Da Mean Bean is your one-stop shop. 5123 Hana Highway.

• Upcountry •
Crema Maui
Look for the white trolley at the Kulamalu Town Center, and you’ve found Crema! Crema may be Maui’s most unique coffee shop. This converted trolley is now a chic cafe serving up delectable espresso and small bites. Try a craft latte and pair it with a bouquet of fresh Upcountry flowers. 65 Kupaoa St.
Grandma’s Coffee House
Grandma’s is a living piece of Upcountry history. The Franco family has grown coffee on Haleakala’s slopes for four generations, and they still roast it in a century-old roaster at their Keokea coffee house. Sit on the lanai, sip your coffee, and soak in the crisp Upcountry air. Come hungry; their breakfast plates are loaded. This is an ideal stop after a Haleakala sunrise or before exploring Upcountry. 9232 Kula Hwy.

• North Shore •
Espresso Mafia
This family-owned Italian espresso bar began as a coffee truck in 2020 and now has a permanent home on Baldwin Avenue in Makawao. Everything here is made with Hawaii- or Italy-sourced ingredients. Try a specialty honey creme latte or anything made with their house-made “mafia milk,” and grab a slice of olive oil cake for the road. Not heading uphill? Their Paia collaboration, Clhei Cafe, pours Espresso Mafia coffee in the heart of town. Makawao: 3617 Baldwin Av.; Paia: 26 Baldwin Av.

Belle Surf Cafe
This vibrant cafe is a hidden gem in Paia. Located behind San Lorenzo Bikinis on Hana Highway, Belle Surf is a go-to spot for crepes, acai bowls, and carefully made coffee. The set-up here is gorgeous: vines hanging through a wooden slat ceiling, pink upholstered chairs, and plants everywhere. It’s a great stop for morning coffee and breakfast, but after dark the cafe transforms into a nightclub with cocktails and live music. 115 D Hana Highway.
No matter how you plan your days on Maui, a great local cup is waiting on nearly every corner.
